[01] 3D Animation

3D Product Animation

For teams that need a product to look real before it exists - launch renders, technical animation and CGI built from your CAD data, ready for TV, web and trade shows.

[03] Why 3D

When do you actually need 3D?

3D animation solves the problems photography cannot. A product that does not exist yet, one that is too small, too large, or too dangerous to film, or a mechanism whose inner workings need to be shown rather than described - all of that starts as a 3D model, not a camera. We build product and technical animation directly from your CAD files, so dimensions, materials and moving parts are accurate from the first frame. From there we run a full in-house 3D pipeline: look development, lighting, rendering and compositing, adding special effects or blending the render with live-action footage when a shot calls for both. The result is photoreal enough for a product launch, clear enough for a technical or medical explainer, and flexible enough to be recut for every channel you need it on.

[04] Scope

What we deliver

[01]

Photoreal product animation for launch films, 30-90 seconds

[02]

Technical animation of mechanisms and internal assembly, from CAD

[03]

Medical and scientific 3D animation for training or marketing

[04]

CGI compositing - 3D renders blended into live-action footage

[05]

Exploded-view and cutaway animation for manuals and support content

[06]

Photoreal product stills and turntables for e-commerce and print

WHEN ANOTHER FORMAT IS A BETTER FIT

3D animation is especially effective when you need to explain what cannot be seen directly - internal mechanisms, scientific processes, data or complex technology. It is especially useful at scientific and technical conferences, where difficult ideas need to be explained clearly on screen. If you are also organising the event, Streamvision, can handle the live production and streaming side.

[06] Process

From CAD file to final render, in six steps

[01]

Brief and reference

We can prepare a script based on your vision, including a moodboard and references. We also review your CAD files, brand guidelines and reference material, and agree on the shot list, style and delivery formats before production begins.

[02]

Modelling and look development

We build the 3D model from your CAD data or references, then perform lookdev to ensure the model and materials look their best under any lighting setup. From there, you can select the final lighting profile for production.

[03]

Approval before render

You review a still frame, a low-res preview, or a playblast with full camera and object animation to fully approve every shot. Nothing goes to the render farm and no render hours are billed before that final approval.

Approval gate
[04]

Rendering and compositing

The approved scene goes to our render farm. We composite the output, integrate any live-action plates, and apply final post-production, including special effects, 2D graphics, and text callouts over the 3D imagery.

[05]

Review and revisions

You get a graded cut to review, built exclusively from your approved and rendered shots. We include two standard review rounds in the price for all editing adjustments, as long as they follow the originally approved script. If you decide to add any completely new shots, these will be quoted separately.

[06]

Final delivery

You receive final files in every format and aspect ratio agreed upon in the first phase of production, including broadcast, web and social, plus stills and source project files on request. Any additional formats outside the initial agreement will be quoted separately.

[07] Tools and specs

Software, formats and delivery

Software

We handle 3D modelling and animation in Maya and Houdini, with Blender as an additional tool, rendering exclusively in Arnold. Compositing is carried out in After Effects, with editing in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, and tracking managed in After Effects or Resolve Fusion.

Formats

We accept inputs in STEP, IGES, FBX, OBJ, STL, USD, or native CAD assemblies. Deliverables include EXR, TIFF, and PNG image sequences, ProRes 4444/422 HQ, DNxHR, or MP4 (H.264/H.265) masters, up to 4K UHD resolution and custom aspect ratios.

Frame rate

Our standard production runs at 25fps, but we can deliver in any other popular frame rate, such as 24, 30 or 60fps, based on your project requirements. Slow-motion material can also be rendered or captured at up to 240fps in Full HD where a shot needs it.

Delivery

Final files are delivered via a secure Dropbox download link that stays active for several years, ensuring long-term access to your assets. Native Maya, Houdini, or Blender project files and render passes are provided strictly on request

Revisions

During production, all preview iterations are accessible under the same Dropbox Replay link for effortless review and feedback. Two rounds of revisions are included after the approved preview stage, while any further changes requested once rendering starts will be quoted separately.

[08] FAQ

3D animation - questions we get asked

Medical and scientific animation is a separate discipline from product animation, usually requiring closer collaboration with a subject-matter expert to keep anatomy or process detail accurate. We scope these projects with extra review rounds built in, and pricing reflects the additional research and accuracy checks involved.

A static render and an animated second use the same 3D model, lighting and materials - the extra cost in animation is rendering many frames instead of one, plus the time spent on movement, timing and camera work. Once the model and look are built, additional stills from the same scene cost much less than the first.

We build directly from STEP, IGES, OBJ or native CAD assemblies, which keeps dimensions and proportions accurate from the first frame. If you do not have CAD files, we can model from technical drawings, reference photography or a physical sample, though this adds time to the schedule.

A typical 3D product animation takes 3-6 weeks from approved brief to final render, depending on model complexity and revision rounds. Nothing goes to the render farm until you approve a still frame or preview, so the render stage itself is usually the shortest part of the schedule.

Pricing depends on complexity, length and how much CAD data you can provide. As a guide, a 30-second product animation typically runs EUR 4,000-10,000, with technical or medical animation priced higher for added accuracy and review rounds. Send your CAD files and reference for an accurate quote.
